Ben and Marion started WinterGear in the late 70's after moving to Wales from London. After finding that there was Not a lot of demands for their skills, Ben's outdoor industry retail and Marion couture dressmaking. So we combined them, and started wintergear by making bivouac bags from the then new Gortex tent fabric.
After a holiday in the states, where we saw some great geodesic tent designs from companies such as The North face. We compared them with the very conventional designs coming from the UK tent makers, and saw a big gap in the market. So we took the Geodesic principles of the American tents, and combined them with hot air taped seams, good quality groundsheets, And down to earth flysheets. To create a range of light, airy, strong, and above all waterproof tents.
these designs have stood the test of time, so even 30 years on, the "Quasar" in particular and its many clones are virtually unchanged. They are considered to be the definitive 2 man mountain tents.
